Front cover of what I believe to be 1 of my fave books. |
Captain cook, the first penguin given to Mr. Popper by the admiral Drake pops out of his crate! |
I have been overtaken. Yes I have by the most cute adventure of a book yet!
The story is about a lonesome house painter named Mr. Popper who longs and dreams about the arctic and penguins. He loved it so much that he wrote a letter to Sir Admiral Drake...he was on an expedition in the arctic.
Popper explained to him his love for all things cold. So Admiral sent him a little gift. Yes a real live Penguin! Well the story is just out right cute and the plot is child friendly...shoot for all ages! I don't want to ruin it so check it out for you're self.
The illustrations bring it to live action almost it seems. Set in black, white, gray and touches of random peacock blue.
Half is Written by Richard atwater but unfortunately he fell ill so his wife Florence Atwater took over to finish his book. Published in 1938 this chapter book will entertain I think many generations ahead!
